The Certell Mission
Our mission is to create avid lifelong learners who can process information thoughtfully. We aim to create independent thinkers who are equipped to live abundant lives. To succeed, we cannot teach the digital generation with analog methods.
We fulfill our mission by helping teachers teach students how to think-not what to think. Our content is designed to give students a sensible, informed foundation, so they can think critically and engage constructively with others.
Common Sense Economics is designed for students who will only ever have one economics class in their life.
It begins by introducing students to the economic way of thinking with twelve essential concepts for understanding and applying economic reasoning to one's decision-making. It then looks at the causes of wealth–the institutions which are common to successful societies and which produce economic growth and improved lives. Next, it then looks at the role of government in promoting–and also in impeding–economic success at the individual and social level. And finally, it applies economic reasoning to personal finance, allowing students to leave the course with a powerful toolkit to improve their lives by applying the principles of economics to the choices they make.
The course package was developed as a 200-level alternative to introduction to micro- or macroeconomics. It is suitable as a general education course for non-economics and non-business majors.
